Learn Key Stage 2 P.E (Physical Education)

During Key Stage 2 pupils enjoy being active and using their creativity and imagination in physical activity.  When I was at school, P.E was my favourite part of the week and could not understand why some of my friends ‘forgot their P.E kit’ to get out of doing physical activities!

Another factor on P.E is that pupils understand the scoring and points systems and timings specific to each activity.  

Although P.E is usually associated with physical activities and games, a large part of the learning is educational.  During this education, along with the physical aspect - pupils will study how exercise affects the body in the short and long term, why it is good for their health and well-being, how to warm up correctly, the reasons why warm up is important and why appropriate clothing and hygiene is important to P.E.

Science plays a part in P.E also, with regards to life processes and living things, including how the heart acts as a pump to circulate the blood through vessels around the body and lungs, and the understanding about the effect of exercise and rest on your pulse rate.

Learn Key Stage 2 History

During Key Stage Two History pupils learn about noteworthy people, events and places, both in the past and more recently.  They learn about change over time in Britain and other parts of the world, and look at history from different perspectives such as, political, economic, technological, scientific, social, religious, and cultural.  They will be able to describe main events and situations and make the links between these occasions and different periods and societies. 

When investigating the past they will use different sources of information, using dates and historical vocabulary to describe events, people and developments.  Throughout this learning they will understand that the past can be represented and interpreted in different ways throughout Britain and the wider world, and that people have different views and concepts on the history of the past.

Key Stage 2 History students will develop a chronological understanding of placing events, people and changes into the correct eras.  They will use dates and vocabulary relating to the passing of time, including ancient, modern, BC, AD, century and decades.

When studying Key Stage 2 History, pupils will also incorporate ICT based sources into their research; these include documents, printed sources, CD-ROMS, databases, pictures, photographs, music and artefacts.  They will also visit historic buildings, museums and galleries where they will ask and answer questions relevant to the focus of the enquiry.  

To summarise, using the guidelines as mentioned above - pupils will be taught the knowledge, skills and understanding through a local history study, three British history studies, a European history study and a world history study.  This will include the Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, Tudor times and Victorian Britain.

Learn Key Stage 2 ICT

During Key Stage Two, pupils use a wide range of ICT tools and information sources to support their work in the other subjects they study at school; they use their research skills and decide what information is suitable for their work.  By doing this, they will question the credibility and quality of information and learn how to change their work and present it in such a way, suitable to their audience.  

I.C.T is a perfect setting for pupils to learn and understand health and safety.  Pupils will exercise health and safety skills when using, computers, keyboards, data projectors, interactive whiteboards, software, mobile equipment, hazardous substances and of course personal safety.

The 1^st area they will cover is ‘Reading for information’, here pupils will:

-Scan text to extract relevant info.

-Skim for general gist and overall impression.

-Obtain specific info through detailed reading.

-Draw on different features of texts, including print, sound and image, to obtain meaning.

-Use organisational features and systems to find texts and info.

-Learn to decide between fact and opinion.

The 2^nd area in I.C.T is ‘developing ideas and making them a reality’.  Pupils will understand how to develop and refine ideas upon organising text, tables, images and sound specific to their idea.  They will learn how to create, test, improve and refine instructions to make things happen, monitor events and respond to them.  During this stage they will plan, draft, revise, proofread, present and discuss their ideas and work.

The 3^rd area in learning I.C.T is ‘exchanging and sharing information’.  Here pupils will learn how to share and exchange info in various ways including e-mail, they will need to bear in mind the needs of the audience and carefully consider the content and quality when communicating info.
