Learn Key Stage 2 ICT

During Key Stage Two, pupils use a wide range of ICT tools and information sources to support their work in the other subjects they study at school; they use their research skills and decide what information is suitable for their work.  By doing this, they will question the credibility and quality of information and learn how to change their work and present it in such a way, suitable to their audience.  

I.C.T is a perfect setting for pupils to learn and understand health and safety.  Pupils will exercise health and safety skills when using, computers, keyboards, data projectors, interactive whiteboards, software, mobile equipment, hazardous substances and of course personal safety.

The 1^st area they will cover is ‘Reading for information’, here pupils will:

-Scan text to extract relevant info.

-Skim for general gist and overall impression.

-Obtain specific info through detailed reading.

-Draw on different features of texts, including print, sound and image, to obtain meaning.

-Use organisational features and systems to find texts and info.

-Learn to decide between fact and opinion.

The 2^nd area in I.C.T is ‘developing ideas and making them a reality’.  Pupils will understand how to develop and refine ideas upon organising text, tables, images and sound specific to their idea.  They will learn how to create, test, improve and refine instructions to make things happen, monitor events and respond to them.  During this stage they will plan, draft, revise, proofread, present and discuss their ideas and work.

The 3^rd area in learning I.C.T is ‘exchanging and sharing information’.  Here pupils will learn how to share and exchange info in various ways including e-mail, they will need to bear in mind the needs of the audience and carefully consider the content and quality when communicating info.

Other areas that will be implemented into the I.C.T Key Stage Two learning schedule include:

-Reviewing, modifying and evaluating work as it progresses. (Comparing their work to that of others and how theirs and friends work could be improved.

-Solving numerical problems. (Recognising, representing and interpreting simple number relationships and using formulae in words and symbols).
