Education Key Stage

The national Curriculum Key Stages are broken into two parts; primary and secondary. Primary Education is made up of two stages, which are; Key Stage’s One and Two and secondary education is also made up of two stages, which are Key Stage’s Three and Four.  Key Stage One is developed for children aged 4-7 and Key Stage Two is for children aged 7-11.
The school curriculum comprises all learning and other experiences that each school plans for its pupils; and the National Curriculum is an important element of the school curriculum.
The primary curriculum consists of identical aims, values and purposes, indicates general teaching requirements, specifies the subjects to be taught and instructs a structured approach to subject and pupil assessments.

With regards to the secondary curriculum the National Curriculum for England at Key Stage’s 3 and 4 was first published by QCA in 2007, with implementation into schools commencing in September 08.  Like with the Key Stage’s mentioned above, Key Stage’s Three and Four uphold the same principles in terms of aims, values, purposes, teaching requirements, subjects and assessments; but developed for a slightly older pupil.  KS3 is created for pupils aged between 11 and 14, whereas KS4 is for pupils aged between 14 and 16.  Key Stage’s One to Four cover the complete learning guidelines and makes up the overall primary and secondary education.

E-Maths KS 2

This article, brought to you by KeyStageTwo.com looks at KS2 E-Maths, and how KeyStageTwo.com can help your children or pupils learn better through fun online games combined with learning.
KS2 – Key Stage Two is the level of education for children aged 7-11.  The National Curriculum upholds the subjects and teaching guidelines for Key Stage Two education in the United Kingdom.

Emaths is an interactive educational application, allowing teachers, tutors, parents and children to share mathematical ideas and resources.

During Key Stage Two Maths education, pupils will learn about numbers, fractions, percentages, decimals, and algebra, calculations, shape, space, measure and handling data.  Handling data requires the understanding of interpreting data by using graphs, diagrams, and bar charts. And, as with many Key Stage Two subjects, I.C.T plays a big part in E-Maths education.  "ICT" is used as a general term for all kinds of technologies which enable users to create, access and manipulate information. The term ICT is a combination of information technology and communications technology.

During KS 2 learning in Maths, pupils’ will use the number system more confidently.  They move from counting reliably to calculating fluently with all four number operations.  They always try to tackle a problem with mental methods before using any other approach.  Pupils explore features of shape and space, and develop their measuring skills in a range of contexts.  They discuss and present their methods and reasoning using a wider range of mathematical language, diagrams and charts.

Key Stage Two.com is the perfect setting to study E-Maths, combining fun games with education.

Comprehension Worksheets KS2 - By Key Stage Two.com

Comprehension learning begins with development of reading, and moves to writing and the understanding of the written word.
When reading a story to children it is always useful for adults to ask children a couple of questions about the book. For example, 'Did you enjoy that story?' or 'Would you like to go into space?... go to the seaside?', or another question relevant to the storyline. Children usually ask questions incessantly so try encouraging them to use this as a method of developing comprehension.
Comprehension has different meanings, but in education terms in Key Stage Two learning it is the art of understanding a piece of text and withdrawing relevant information. The word comprehension has the same meaning as ‘understanding’.  Whereas Reading Comprehension, measures the understanding of a piece of text and is defined as the level of understanding of a piece of text.  Do you comprehend? / Do you understand?

Skilful reading depends on the ability to recognise words quickly and effortlessly and if word recognition is difficult, pupils use too much of their processing capacity to read individual words, thus interfering with their ability to comprehend what is read.

There are many ways to develop skills with regards to comprehension.   Pupils can prepare to read by previewing pages of written text, noting such elements as chapter headings and visual aids. Reading strategies such as outlining and questioning the author's purpose can also boost understanding, and worksheets can reinforce reading comprehension skills.

Worksheets can reinforce skills and improve reading comprehension. Students can practice their reading skills by answering multiple choice questions, matching, unscrambling sentences, and filling in the blanks. Worksheets are often centered on a particular topic, such as restaurants, travel, dating, shopping or entertainment, and may also relate to expressions, slang and phrases.

Key Stage Two is the level of education undertaken by pupils/children between the ages of 7- 11 and is a very important stage of their learning which is why Key Stage Two.com have developed an interactive online learning environment that successfully manages to combine games with learning to make education fun and engaging.

Unless of course this is a route you have carefully considered.
As a parent spending as little as 40-50 minutes per night Monday to Thursday is more than enough to boost their learning with great noticeable results, you do not have to be qualified in teaching, just access to the internet and the time.

Any teacher can tell you that comprehension is one of the five key components of essential reading and many are able to identify strategies that good readers use to understand (comprehend) what they read.  But comprehension goes further:  Comprehension involves
-constructing meaning from reading traditional text in print form (books, papers, magazines),
-from listening to others read or
-from viewing text in one of the many media available in our world today.
COMPREHENSION IS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT TODAY
Comprehension is an essential part of successfully developing 21st century literacies.  It is a vital tool for reading in our modern age, a method through which we:
-gain meaning from the words someone else has constructed,
-learn something new, to confirm something we think,
- understand another’s viewpoint,
- to relax and:
- to escape from the everyday pressures of life.

Key Stage Two Art and Design

During Key Stage 2 Art pupils develop their creativity and imagination through more complex activities.  These help to build on their skills and improve their control of materials, tools and techniques.  They increase their critical awareness of the roles and purposes of art, craft and design in different times and cultures.  They become more confident in using visual and tactile elements and materials and processes to communicate what they see, feel and think.
In investigating and making art, craft and design pupils will investigate and combine visual and tactile qualities of materials and processes and to match these qualities to the purpose of the work.  They will apply their experience of materials and processes, including drawing, developing their control of tools and techniques by using a variety of methods and approaches to communicate observations, ideas and feelings, and to design and make images and arte-facts.
As well as the areas listed below, I.C.T and Health and Safety play a big part in Art and Design, the opportunities for I.C.T development may include the use of digital and video cameras to record observations, digital images as a starting point for creative textile work, and the chance of pupils promoting their own class art gallery on the school website.  Pupils must exercise Health and Safety awareness when creating arts and crafts, particularly in the correct use of scissors and potential hazards.
The main areas in Art and Design education include:
-Visual and tactile elements, including colour, pattern and texture, line and tone, shape, form and space, and how these elements can be combined and organised for different purposes.
-The roles and purposes of artists, craftspeople, and designers working in different times and cultures (for example, Western Europe and the wider world.
-With regards to working with tools, equipment, materials, and components to make quality products, pupils will measure, mark out, cut and shape a range of materials, and assemble, join and combine components and materials accurately.

Learn Key Stage 2 P.E (Physical Education)

During Key Stage 2 pupils enjoy being active and using their creativity and imagination in physical activity.  When I was at school, P.E was my favourite part of the week and could not understand why some of my friends ‘forgot their P.E kit’ to get out of doing physical activities!
Anyway, when doing Physical Education, pupils learn new skills, find out how to use them in different ways, and link them to make actions, phrases and sequences of movement.  They enjoy communicating, collaborating and competing with each other.  They develop an understanding of how to succeed in different activities and learn how to evaluate and recognise their own success.
They will learn to gain new skills and perform actions and skills with more consistent control and quality; they will plan, use and adapt strategies, tactics and ideas for individual and group activities.  While abiding to the Health and Safety aspects associated with P.E, they will learn and understand the rules of a game, such as
Netball.
Football.
Basketball.
Swimming.
Athletics.
Gymnastics.
Dance.
Another factor on P.E is that pupils understand the scoring and points systems and timings specific to each activity.
Although P.E is usually associated with physical activities and games, a large part of the learning is educational.  During this education, along with the physical aspect - pupils will study how exercise affects the body in the short and long term, why it is good for their health and well-being, how to warm up correctly, the reasons why warm up is important and why appropriate clothing and hygiene is important to P.E.
Science plays a part in P.E also, with regards to life processes and living things, including how the heart acts as a pump to circulate the blood through vessels around the body and lungs, and the understanding about the effect of exercise and rest on your pulse rate.
